Like every year, and remembering the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, World Jewish Congress adjacent to Latin American Jewish Congress they launch the campaign #WeRemember. This year the campaign has reached millions of people, with the participation of the Pope Francisco.
On January 27, 79 years ago, the Red Army entered Auschwitz, encountering the greatest atrocities perpetrated by human beings. They met 7.000 survivors, weak, sick, malnourished, who have become the symbol of the strength of the Jewish people. but who would become the people who today are the symbol of the strength of the Jewish people. Thanks to them and their legacy, the memory persists and every January 27, and the days after, we say WE REMEMBER – WE REMEMBER.
The #WeRemember campaign invites society to get involved in active memory. The slogan is simple but enormously symbolic: write “#WeRemember” on a sheet of paper, take a photo with the sign and share it on social networks. More and more people are joining in to remember.
This year the Jewish people feel especially challenged when it comes to remembering the victims who were murdered in the name of hate. Today We Remember feels closer than any other year. Remembering the past to protect the future and the present is the motto that heads this edition of the campaign.
This massive campaign reminds the world of what can happen when hatred spreads and indifference reigns. That is why it is essential that this year the commitment of millions of people is renewed and they commit to not forgetting the past.
We Remember: let's remember the past to protect the future and the present.
