Urgent meeting of the Security Council at the request of Iran over the death of Haniyeh

The UN Security Council meets urgently this afternoon, at the request of Iran, to discuss the situation created after the death of Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, along with his bodyguard last morning in Tehran.

Russia, which this month presides over the Council in its rotating turn, received Iran's request, which China and Algeria immediately supported, and called the meeting, as announced by the 'number 2' of the Russian mission, Dmitry Polyanskiy.

Iran's mission to the UN sent a letter to the Council in which it requests that it "unequivocally and strongly condemn the aggressions and terrorist attacks of the Israeli regime against the sovereignty of Iran and its territorial integrity," although Israel has not acknowledged its responsibility for the murder.

Shortly before, and in your X account, Iran's own mission promised that Haniyeh's murder will merit a response "that will make the perpetrator deeply regret" his death.
