The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, criticized on Monday that Israel “ignores” the truce proposal presented last May by US President Joe Biden, and that it is including new conditions with the aim of hindering a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

“Israel ignores Biden’s plan and when mediators such as Egypt and Qatar are working to put forward reasonable suggestions and conditions, the Israeli side is instead putting forward other conditions,” Lavrov said at a press conference in Riyadh, where he participated in a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

In this regard, he recalled that Russia and other countries also presented other peace initiatives for Gaza which, however, "were obstructed by the United States," especially those that were vetoed by the UN Security Council.

“There must be an immediate and rapid ceasefire, and we must not forget that the root of the problem is that this conflict remains unresolved after 80 years, as the establishment of a Palestinian state was not allowed (sic)", said the head of Russian diplomacy.

In this regard, he stated that to reach an agreement "we must work with the parties in conflict," while assuring that Moscow is in contact with various Palestinian factions, “as well as with Israel, Iran and other countries in the region,” and with the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

In the face of growing tensions in the Middle East, Lavrov warned that “the Palestinian crisis could spread and create other conflicts on the border between Lebanon and Israel or in the Red Sea,” the scene of Houthi attacks on commercial shipping and vessels with some connection to Israel.

"There are those who want to start a wide regional war and this is what we are facing," said the Russian, who recalled that Moscow has been involved in reconciliation between Palestinian factions, especially between Fatah and the terrorist group Hamas.

Just today, Qatari Prime Minister Mohamed bin Abderrahman, a key mediator between Israel and Hamas, He asked Lavrov to apply the “necessary pressure”v to impose a ceasefire in Gaza after diplomatic efforts “have not yielded the desired result.”

  1. The Russians should first stop the war against Ukraine and then talk about stopping Israel's war against terrorists.
