They were sentenced to a crude and brutal exercise of ethnic cleansing carried out in just a few days.
More than 100.000 Armenians from this enclave have left for Armenia and, perhaps, will never return to the lands they inherited from their ancestors. What a shame.
By Ricardo Angoso
In just a few days, from the Azeri attack on September 19 until today, Nagorno Karabakh has disappeared from the maps and almost its entire population has fled en masse from this territory towards Armenia. The war is over for the Armenians, but its real tragedy has begun. Once again, as so many times in their history, Armenians are forced to exodus, leaving behind their houses, their lands, their properties, the tombs of their ancestors and their unplowed fields. The Republic of Artsakh, which is what Armenians call Nagorno Karabakh, has already announced its self-dissolution for January 1, 2024, but surely long before that any trace of its administration will have disappeared. militarily at the mercy of the determination of the Azeris to erase all traces of the millennia-old presence of the Armenians in the region.
Abandoned by everyone, including their supposed Russian and French allies, and forgotten by the West, which has preferred to look the other way rather than be involved in an uncomfortable mess, the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh have been sacrificed on the altar of geopolitics for the sake of avoid certain conflicts with Russia and Turkey. Russia, which was supposed to guarantee peace in the region and prevent the attack by the Azeris against the Armenians, did not lift a finger in these three years of complete calm, in which provocations and attacks by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh abounded.
In these years, especially since the 2020 war, in which the fate of the Armenians of this enclave was definitively sealed, Russia has not complied with its international obligations and its peace contingent was not even capable of forcing the lifting of the blockade to which the Azeris subjected the Armenians. Without food, basic supplies, medicine, gas and water and electricity in dribs and drabs, the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh have endured the unspeakable in recent years due to the blockade of the Lachin corridor, the only route that connected them with the outside world through Armenia. With that route closed by the Azeris, there was no hope for Nagorno Karabakh, it was doomed to certain death.
The Russians never prevented the blockade of this Lachin corridor and did nothing on September 19 when the Azeri attacks against the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh began. Russia, which has played both cards in this war, has made Armenia pay dearly for its flirtations with NATO and the European Union (EU). According to Thomas de Waal, a British expert on the Karabakh issue, Russia made the decision to sacrifice Karabakh to punish Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian and because it was in its best interest to form a new alliance with Turkey and Azerbaijan. The main issue is the rather naive trust of the Armenian leaders, both in Nagorno and Armenia, towards Russia. The authorities of the enclave and also of Yerevan continued to believe that Moscow would not sell them, but that is exactly what happened and now they are paying dearly.
SURRENDER OF NAGORNO KARABAK
Exhausted, barely armed and no longer counting on the support of Armenia, which in an absolutely irresponsible gesture came to recognize Azerbaijan's territorial sovereignty over Nagorno Karabakh last August, the authorities of this enclave could do little or nothing more than surrender. against an enemy superior in weapons, human and technical resources and that had the invaluable support of Turkey. The Azeri military attack was resounding, forceful and using superior means against an inferior enemy without the strength to defend itself, once Armenia had also abandoned them to their fate and withdrawn its military from the enclave, causing more than 200 victims, mostly civilians killed in the indiscriminate bombings, and four hundred injured.
The West, meanwhile, engrossed in the war in Ukraine, also did nothing for the Armenians or Nagorno-Karabakh. Let us not forget that this self-proclaimed republic territory was never recognized by the international community and that the doctrine regarding it was to recognize only the borders born from the dissolution of the USSR, in 1991, despite the fact that many times, as was clearly the case, In this case, they had been drawn up unfairly and without taking into account ethnic criteria.
More than 100.000 of the slightly more than 120.000 inhabitants of Nagorno Karabakh have already left by road to Armenia. The ethnic cleansing has been completed in days. There will no longer be Armenians in one of the iconic and most emblematic territories for this wandering people always persecuted by their neighbors. The catastrophe of the Armenian genocide, between 1915 and 1923, in which almost two million Armenians were murdered, is now joined by the destruction of Nagorno Karabakh. As has happened in the past with other territories seized by the Azeris, the ethnic cleansing will surely be followed by the destruction of the churches, monasteries, cemeteries and Armenian symbols of Nagorno Karabakh, as already happened after the 2020 war and It is documented with abundant graphic material. The president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has promised to eliminate all traces of Armenia from the territories and areas occupied after the invasion of Artsakh. What not even a fossil is preserved, the Azeris will think, is that it has not really existed. The land devastated by their tanks will prove them right, but the history of ignominy will condemn them forever.
The Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh have been condemned to extermination, expelled from their homes, evicted from their ancestral lands, but the true misery, that of the executioners, is on the other side, among those who have sown death and pain to thousands of innocent civilians. While the Armenians abandon in their thousands everything they had built throughout their lives, from Nagorno Karabakh we will only have the memory of a dream that now dissolves like a sugar in a hot coffee. I finish this requiem for Nagorno Karabakh with a broken heart for this last great Armenian tragedy and tremendously disappointed for a Europe that once again did not attend its appointment with those who suffer the most.
how sad
The hypocritical Europe and its successors, its rotten press, its rotten socks, they don't even say muuuhhhh, many years will not pass without it being their turn... the Europeans will submit, they are used to obeying and they will obey.
To their new masters what will they tell them until they can speak and teach their children in school, to their new Fhurer with or without a turban, Will Israel be the new Byzantium but can it endure? …these Armenians, abandoned by everyone, have the dignity of leaving their country of centuries and centuries; they do not want to be subjected and governed by their enemies.
Sad reality of interests before humanity, then welcome global hypocritical apologies, that is why Israel defends itself and will never fall into this dirty game of pretentious and cowardly bohemian diplomats.
The first culprit is Armenia, a people mired in corruption and poverty that has not given importance to its self-defense and left it in the hands of Russia and France. You should NEVER let others defend you because you stop being "sovereign."
2nd. Armenia allied itself with the Russian-Iranian axis and flirted with NATO…. That is, they don't know where they stand. Then they try to get Israel to help them, because of the genocide and whatnot, but like Ukraine they always vote against Israel in the UN.
In world chess, they play a small travel chess game.
Yes, of course, it is the fault of those own Armenians who have to escape from their own country, their ancestral homeland if they want to continue preserving their roots and remain Armenians…. Go on, dude, go home... It's something similar to saying that the culprits of the expulsion of the Jews from the Kingdoms of Castile and Aragon-Catalunya in 1492 were the Jews themselves who did not want to renounce and adjure their roots, their religion. to remain in those two countries that threatened to expel them if they did so while remaining faithful to their people.
