Mascagni’s opera “Cavalleria Rusticana” with partial staging, conducted by Leonardo Sini. Chamber concerts with Martha Argerich, Lahav Shani and musicians from the orchestra. By Chiquita Levov.

This orchestra is proud to present a very rich and diverse program in its upcoming series of concerts. Under the baton of Leonardo Sini who will conduct Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana”, the one-act opera with partial staging. A short opera in which there is love, betrayal, passion and tragedy wrapped in heavenly music. A piece that has everything that makes an excellent opera. When the audience heard it at the premiere, they were amazed by how direct and forceful it was, total in its unbridled emotional devotion. It promises to be an exciting and unique operatic experience with outstanding soloists from Israel and Italy. The program is completed by Tchaikovsky’s “Capricho Italiano” and Casella’s “La Giara” (The Pitcher), a symphonic suite, humorous ballet music in a traditional Italian spirit. The plot tells of Torrido returning to his village in Sicily after military service and discovering that Lola, his fiancée, has married another man. To get revenge, he seduces his ex-girlfriend, succeeds in making Lola jealous and she runs into his arms behind her new husband's back, who finds out about the affair and challenges Torrido to a duel, while the women anxiously await the tragic results.

The opera is based on a story by Giovanni Verga, who belonged to a new literary movement called “Verismo,” which was actually a type of realism. The master Leonardo Sini He began his musical studies at the Luigi Canepa Conservatory, continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and then studied conducting in the Netherlands and won several awards. In the current concert season he conducts several famous operas in Italy, Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, Seoul, Budapest, Zurich, Tokyo, Hanover, Dresden, Paris, Sydney and more. Soloists are: Maria Teresa Leva, Stefano la Colla, Claudio Sgura, Rona Shrira and Anat Czarny. Conducted by Shirit Lee Weiss and featuring the Israel Opera Chorus, directed by Itay Berckovitch.

The Israel Philharmonic will soon present two concerts within the chamber concerts: the first is the Chamber Concerto No. 6. With eight musicians from the orchestra, a unique program combining the intimacy of the chamber with a rich symphonic tone. At the beginning of the concert, two short pieces, full of drama and overwhelming energy, by Shostakovich will be performed. Next, the Octet by the Romanian composer Gheorghe Enescu will take place, a work that combines the expressiveness of late Romanticism with a modern touch. At the end, the first work written by Mendelssohn, a masterful Octet that he wrote when he was only 8 years old. The 16 in the Zucker Hall at Heijal Habarbut.

The Israel Philharmonic is also proud to present a special, unmissable chamber concert, featuring the star-studded Argentine pianist Martha Argerich and Philharmonic conductor Lahav Shani, who is also a talented pianist. They will be joined by five other musicians from the orchestra. The program will open with the magic of fairy tales, with Ravel’s “Mother Goose” and will continue with two romantic works by Schumann: “Andante and Variations” for a unique ensemble of two pianos, two cellos and a horn, and “Fantasy Pieces for Cello and Piano.” The concert will conclude with Bartók’s monumental “Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion,” an unforgettable modern classic.
