As cases of anti-Semitism rise in Europe, some Jewish families begin to camouflage their mezuzah

In the year 2021, an Irish rabbi invented what he called a “Camozuzah”, that is, a “camouflaged mezuzah”.

Currently, and with the growing sense of insecurity felt by some Jewish communities, with the war in Israel and the consequent increase in anti-Semitic incidents in Europe, there are already many families who have decided to put Zalman Lent's invention into practice. The product is being ordered for the first time relatively frequently and internationally

In the Netherlands alone 75 families requested a “Camozuzah” to use in their home. The device allows them to place the mezuzah on the outside of their doors, but without being identified. Seen from the outside, the mezuzah invented by Rabbi Lent looks like an alarm sensor.

While the invention was originally criticized by some members of the community, the Camozuzah has a different meaning these days. In Lent's own words, “it is much better to have a hidden mezuzah than to have none at all.”

  1. I hope this Rav Lent is not supporting superstitious tendencies and lemineihém atavisms. The chestnut heifer also purifies the impurifiable, which shows how many mysteries there are in the Tanakh...
