The president of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), Alejandro Domínguez, announced this Wednesday that Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will host opening ceremonies of the 2030 World Cup, when the centenary of this global football event is celebrated.

After those games, the emotion will move to Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

«We believed in Big. The 2030 Centennial World Cup begins where it all began. "Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will host the opening matches of the #MundialCentenario," he wrote on his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

In a later press conference, Domínguez announced that the tournament will begin at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo.

«There will be a time before the game where we will be celebrating the anniversary both in Uruguay, in Argentina and in Paraguay. There are going to be three inaugurations, they are not just three games, there are three inaugurations that are going to be held in these venues, in these countries, and also all the previous celebrations," he added.

Moroccan King Mohamed VI welcomed the decision of the FIFA Council to accept the joint candidacy of Spain, Portugal and Morocco to organize the 2030 World Cup, which "recognizes the prominent place of Morocco in the concert of great nations."

In a statement from the royal cabinet released by the state agency MAP, Mohamed VI informs the Moroccan people of FIFA's decision to "unanimously accept the dossier of Morocco-Spain-Portugal as the sole candidacy for the organization of the 2030 World Cup." ».

The monarch also congratulates Spain and Portugal in the note, and emphasizes "the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to work with perfect synergy with the bodies in charge of this dossier, in each of the host countries."

  1. Nothing weird. Sport in general, in order to win more money than they have (And there is already a lot of it) is giving cups to many countries, some that do not deserve (Argentina with megainflation, Indonesia with its terrible level - In fact it was the first organizer not to play the Basketball World Cup - and I can go on and on)
