Gershkovich, 32, the son of Jewish refugees from the Soviet Union, was detained in Yeterinburg, the capital of the Sverdlovsk region, when he was reporting for The Wall Street Journal, after which he was formally accused of espionage by the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia.

According to the indictment, the journalist was collecting secret information in the Sverdlovsk region about the activities of the defense company JSC NPK Uralvagonzavod, a manufacturer of tanks, among other heavy weapons.

The crime of espionage is punishable in Russia with between 10 and 20 years in prison.

The US Government stressed that Gershkovich has done "nothing wrong" and called on Russia for his immediate release.

«The charges against him are false and the Russian Government knows it. "He should be released immediately," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a press conference. EFE and Aurora

  1. President Biden's expressions are the least that his government does in the US, since it functions like a dictatorship that persecutes those who speak out against the abuses of his government. His administration is using the Department of Justice to persecute anti-abortion protesters, particularly the Church. They violate the Constitution as if it were a sport without rules.
