President Isaac Herzog sent a message of encouragement to those affected by the fires in Southern California (United States), which have left at least sixteen dead and dozens injured.
“I send my best wishes to all those affected,” the head of state wrote on social media, expressing his admiration for “the heroic efforts of rescuers, firefighters, police, paramedics and volunteers.”
Herzog also lamented the destruction of “synagogues and institutions” by fire.
One of three wildfires raging across Southern California, the Eaton Fire has destroyed a historic synagogue in suburban Los Angeles, the Pasadena Temple and Jewish Center.
The US government has issued a major disaster declaration to help California deal with the fires, which have destroyed more than 10.000 hectares.
The fires were fueled by Santa Ana winds, which in recent days have reached maximum speeds of 160 kilometers per hour.
Added to this is the drought that the region is experiencing. Los Angeles has recorded its second driest period in almost 150 years this winter.EFE and Aurora
