The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, ordered the transfer to Turkey of his vice president and ambassador to Israel, Verónica Abad, given the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, which compromises the security of residents in the country.
In a decree, the head of state indicated that it is necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of Abad, the family that accompanies him and the other members of the Ecuadorian Foreign Service.
For this reason, it ordered the Foreign Ministry to temporarily transfer Abad and his family to the headquarters of the Ecuadorian Embassy in Ankara, "from where he will continue to perform his duties until he arranges his return to the headquarters" of the Embassy in Israel.
Likewise, he asked the Foreign Ministry to take the necessary actions to ensure the safety of diplomatic and auxiliary personnel of the foreign service, who provide services in Israel.
The distance between Noboa and Abad in the runoff campaign was evident shortly after taking office, last November, when Noboa, surprisingly, appointed Abad as ambassador "on behalf of Ecuador for peace to avoid the escalation of the conflict." between Israel and Palestine.
Abad has denounced alleged harassment by politicians to force her to resign and not temporarily assume the presidency in case Noboa must ask for leave to campaign, if he finally decides to run for the 2025 presidential elections.
Abad's transfer to Ankara came hours after the Foreign Ministry urged its citizens to leave Israel, the Palestinian Authority or Lebanon in the face of the escalation of tensions in this area of the Middle East and "the possibility of an imminent deterioration of the security situation in the region.
In a statement, the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry urged "to take the necessary precautions to plan the timely departure from these countries, using the available means of transportation."
He also asked Ecuadorians to suspend planned trips to this region while the armed conflict continues, "since there is no certainty about the course that an eventual escalation of violence may take."
After that statement, in response to questions from journalists, the Foreign Ministry indicated that the diplomatic mission of Ecuador in Israel, led by Abad, "will remain in the country, working for what Ecuadorians require and thanks to the guarantees that the Government of Israel has provided. to the diplomatic missions of the world.
However, at the end of the day the disposition regarding Abad's transfer was known. EFE and Aurora
