Until recently, only smart meter owners had the option of switching to a private provider in Israel.
However, Energy Minister Eli Cohen announced a new regulation that allows any owner or tenant of a residential property with an electricity meter to opt out of the Israel Electric Corporation and choose from seven private providers. Options will include Pazgaz, Amisragaz, Electra, Bezeq, HOT, Cellcom, among other companies.
According to the government, the measure could reduce household energy bills by between 5% and 20%. If this prediction is fulfilled, an estimated annual savings of between 2.000 and 3.000 million shekels would be achieved.
