The Latin American Jewish Congress (CJL), TikTok, AMIA and the Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum have worked together to launch new educational resources to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and combat misinformation in the digital age.
The “Shoah Commemoration & Education Initiative” focused on a six-month cycle of virtual meetings that concluded with a three-day trip to Poland. During the trip, participants visited key sites and reference areas related to the theme of the Holocaust and the preservation of memory.
A content center was also created on TikTok with access to educational materials, survivor testimonies and expert analysis. The initiative has the collaboration of more than 20 institutions from 11 countries, including the CJL, AMIA and the Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum.
“We are proud to carry out this work of perpetuating the memory of the Holocaust together with Tik Tok and such relevant institutions as the Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum and AMIA. Digital platforms must be used as a vector to work towards a future of understanding. Tik Tok understood the importance of being able to reach its audience with this type of message.”, said Claudio Epelman, executive director of CJL.
Shoah Stories, a platform comprised of short videos from trusted sources about the Holocaust, was also launched in collaboration with educational institutions and memorials.
"We celebrate this initiative to reinforce the memory of the Holocaust and we are proud that a platform with the impact that Tik Tok has seeks to confront misinformation and denialism. It is during these times of proliferation of hate speech, where it is important to take action and work so that this does not continue and achieve a present and future of diversity, coexistence and respect.”, said Ariel Seidler, CJL program director.
These actions are part of the collaboration agreement signed in 2024 by the CJL and TikTok with the aim of collaborating and reaffirming the importance of technology in preserving historical memory and building a world free of hate.
