The King and Queen of Spain will attend the commemoration ceremony in Poland on 27 January of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp of Auschwitz, which will be attended by more than twenty heads of state.

According to sources from the Spanish royal family, Felipe VI and his wife, Queen Letizia, will travel accompanied by the Minister for Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, and will meet at Auschwitz II-Bikernau, one of the sections of the complex, with prominent dignitaries from the main European countries.

They include Charles III of the United Kingdom, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, King Frederick and Queen Mary of Denmark, Crown Prince William of Luxembourg, and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.

Also confirmed to be present were the Presidents of Italy, Sergio Mattarella; of France, Emmanuel Macron; of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier; of Austria, Alexander van der Bellen; and of Poland, Andrzej Duda, as well as the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.

This is not the first time that the King and Queen of Spain have attended this commemoration and, in fact, five years ago they were in the same extermination camp on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation.

There they laid a wreath at the Wall of Death, where thousands of people, mainly Jews, were shot, in memory of all the victims of the Holocaust. EFE

  1. I think it's good that the King and Queen of Spain go to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in Poland, but it is a contradiction to the 10 million euros that Spain gave to Lebanon for its rearmament, there is a cynicism that goes beyond a barrier.

  2. …Although we are not so powerful in terms of money$$$…at least they still have (somewhat obsolete) titles from times gone by (deep down they long for the appearance of “THE Lion of the Tribe of Judah…). You and I too…
