Every year, a massive marathon is held in Tel Aviv. This year, the 15th edition of the Tel Aviv Marathon will take place on Friday, February 28, and more than 45.000 participants are expected.

This year, 12 elite runners from countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya and Morocco will also be taking part in the race. They will compete to break the current Tel Aviv Marathon record, set in 2023 by Kenyan Mibei Dominic Kipngeno, with a time of 02:10:11.

Runners will be able to choose from seven race categories: the 42,195km full marathon, half marathon (21km), 10km, 5km, a dedicated 3km route called “Triumph of the Spirit,” and a handbike race for athletes with disabilities. In addition, a Mini Marathon for children will be held on February 26, which will include a special 400-meter race for children with special needs.

This year’s marathon continues its commitment to being one of the greenest events in the world, and as part of this effort, water stations along the course will offer water in biodegradable cups that will be collected and sent to a composting facility, thereby reducing plastic bottle waste by 75%.

Tel Aviv-Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai said: “Israel’s largest sporting event, in its 16th year, is much more than a race. It represents resilience, unity and determination. This year, we run with heavy hearts for those still in captivity and in memory of our fallen heroes. We pay tribute to our soldiers, the wounded and their families, who inspire us all. I invite you to participate and look forward to seeing all of our hostages return home soon.”
