The mayor of the northern city of Haifa, Yona Yahav, asked his residents to be prepared to spend up to six days inside bunkers, as Israel prepares for a possible large-scale attack by the Lebanese Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah.

"We are asking [residents] to provide enough food and water, because we expect they will have to stay there [in shelters] for four to six days," said the mayor of Haifa, a city on the shores of the Mediterranean and very close to the border. with Lebanon.

According to Yahav, Hezbollah has "very precise missiles and is expected to fire 4.000 projectiles daily."

The border between Lebanon and Israel is experiencing its worst escalation since 2006, after Hezbollah opened fire on Israel last October in solidarity with the Palestinian Islamic terrorist group Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip and is waging a war with Israel.

Although the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not issued any special instructions to the population, they are awaiting a possible large-scale attack by Hezbollah and its main ally, Iran, in response to last week's elimination of senior officials of the Shiite terrorist group and Hamas, in Beirut and Tehran respectively.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant sent a message to the inhabitants of Lebanon to warn them that if Hezbollah continues attacking Israel, it will respond "with all its force."

However, the fear of retaliation from the Islamic Republic has faded as the days go by and new information about its plans emerges.

"In the face of enemy attempts to sow fear on the home front, we must continue a normal lifestyle to the extent possible," Gallant said following a security assessment at Comando de la Retaguaria (or Home Front Command). ).
