New US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has held a call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which he pledged to ensure Israel has the capabilities it needs to defend itself.

The Department of Defense said in a statement that the Israeli prime minister and the head of the Pentagon in the new administration of Donald Trump had "an introductory call to discuss the unbreakable bond that exists between the United States and Israel."

“The Secretary stressed that the United States is fully committed, under the leadership of President Trump, to ensuring that Israel has the capabilities it needs to defend itself. The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact,” the statement said.

They also discussed “the importance of promoting mutual security interests and priorities, especially in the face of persistent threats.”

Hegseth, a former Fox News host, won Senate confirmation as the new defense secretary on Friday thanks to a tie-breaking 50-50 vote by Vice President JD Vance.

His appointment is the most controversial in Trump's cabinet due to his lack of experience in large military operations and having been accused of sexual abuse. EFE and Aurora

  1. I suspect that the new head of the Department of Defense does not have the capacity to manage the agency with the largest budget in the country. I think that was not a good choice by Trump.
