In a video posted on social media, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wished the Iranian people and “all Persians around the world” a happy Persian New Year filled with “health, prosperity, and, above all, freedom.”
“Spring is already on the way, and the Persian New Year will soon arrive. I would like to wish a Happy New Year to the people of Iran and to Persian speakers around the world. Happy Nowruz. I wish you health, happiness, and prosperity. And most importantly: freedom,” he said.
Yesterday, Thursday, the country celebrated "Nowruz" (New Day), a tradition more than 3.000 years old and the country's main non-Islamic holiday, coinciding with the solar equinox and marking the beginning of spring, thus closing out the year 1403 of the Zoroastrian solar calendar.
The president also said he hopes this will be a year of "friendship" because he "cares about their interests," and he wished them "freedom from oppression, from want, and freedom to live and choose."
Over the past year, relations between Iran and Israel have become even more strained after Iran attacked the Jewish state for the first time with drones and ballistic missiles in April and October of last year.
Last March, during the inauguration of the new Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, Netanyhu stated that Israel is determined to "achieve success and victory" on the "seven fronts" it has open, including those against pro-Iranian militias and Iran's own Islamist regime.
