Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in his Jerusalem office on Sunday, the president's team confirmed in a brief statement.
Rubio will also meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at his residence in Jerusalem.
In addition, according to Israeli media, the representative will meet with opposition leader Yair Lapid and visit the Holocaust History Museum in Jerusalem (Yad vashem) with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
It will be the American's first visit to the region since taking office in January following Donald Trump's victory in the November presidential election.
In addition to Israel, Rubio will also travel to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, after participating today in the Munich Security Conference.
The region has been shaken by the plan announced by Trump last week during a meeting with Netanyahu at the White House, where he proposed the expulsion of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to neighboring countries and the United States taking control of the enclave to build the "Middle Eastern Riviera."
Gaza's neighbours Egypt and Jordan have stepped up talks to speed up the construction of the enclave and convince the US president to abandon his project.
