Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuvén Rivlin congratulated Democrat Joe Biden after taking office as the forty-sixth president of the United States.
Both Israeli leaders also congratulated Kamala Harris, who assumed the vice presidency of the North American country.
“President Biden, you and I have had a warm personal friendship for many decades. I look forward to working with you to further strengthen the US-Israel alliance, continue to expand peace between Israel and the Arab world, and address common challenges, chief among them the threat posed by Iran.”said Netanyahu, who enjoyed a close alliance with outgoing President Donald Trump.
For his part, Rivlin stated that the United States does not have a better friend than Israel and that the alliance between both countries goes beyond political parties and is based on the shared values of democracy and freedom, and has the immense support of both towns.
“I have no doubt that under his presidency the United States will remain committed to the security and prosperity of Israel,” Rivlin stressed.
Our region is experiencing rapid changes, many of them positive. The recent peace agreements between Israel and our neighbors provide new hope, and I look forward to working with "You to help build more bridges in our region, including with our Palestinian neighbors," Rivlin said.
“At the same time, we continue to face the growing threat of Iranian aggression and expansionism, as well as growing anti-Semitism and global terrorism, all during the unprecedented global challenge of COVID-19. Only if we unite as allies and friends can we face these challenges”the Israeli president suggested.
