National Aliyah Day at the ANU Museum of the Jewish People

31th October 2024 , ,

For the first time, a “Human Library,” an exhibit of Olim (new immigrants) from around the world sharing their stories with the public, will be presented at the ANU Museum of the Jewish People.

The ANU Museum – Museum of the Jewish People, reports that in commemoration of National Aliyah Day, which will be celebrated on November 7, a variety of events will be held at this Museum to honor and recognize the work and unique contribution of the Olim to Israeli society. Within the framework of this initiative, led by Nefesh B'Nefesh and ANU – Museum of the Jewish People, and in collaboration with the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo and the Nadav Foundation, visitors are invited to experience the impact of Aliyah through personal testimonies, culinary experiences, art and unique audio-visual archives. They state: “This year, more than ever, we value those who have chosen to make Aliyah and make their home here.” On 7.11 at 17:30 p.m. More information:

The events will begin with an Olim fair, where dozens of small and medium-sized businesses founded in Israel by Olim will showcase their products in areas such as gastronomy, art, fashion and more. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste and learn about the rich world of the Olim and connect with their stories through sensory experiences. Afterwards, participants will be able to tour the main exhibition, the “Human Library.” In this space, new and more experienced immigrants will be in different areas of the museum and will share their personal stories in four languages: Hebrew, Spanish, English and Russian, facilitating close and open encounters between the public and the Olim.

At the entrance, visitors will be given a map with the location of the different presenters in the museum, allowing them to choose their tour according to themes, countries of origin and language. This mosaic of Olim stories will reflect a diverse and fascinating picture of men and women of different ages, who have bravely chosen to start a new life in Israel. In the evening, a special screening will be held presented by Rivka Adaret, Director of the Department of Film Series and Encounters at ANU – Museum of the Jewish People. The screening will include unique film clips from the Visual Documentation Center’s collection that recount the history of Aliyah, from the time of the British Mandate, the establishment of the State, the great waves of Aliyah and up to the 1990s. The events will conclude with a performance by the pop-rock band “FROMSCRATCH,” formed by Olim immigrants, who represent their new beginnings in the country, symbolizing the meaning of their name: “From scratch.”
