Since January 1, 2024, a total of 18.342 people crossed the waters that separate the United Kingdom from France in boats, 13% more than in 2023

A total of 703 migrants entered the United Kingdom this Sunday crossing the English Channel, the highest figure in a single day since the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, came to power on July 5, and the third highest in 2024, according to figures released this Monday by the Ministry of the Interior.

According to that portfolio, On Sunday, 11 boats were counted, which were estimated to have an average of 64 people on board each..

The highest number so far in 2024 is that of June 18, when 882 people crossed the waters of the canal, while the second highest was 711 on May 1, both cases before the general elections held last year. 4th of July in the UK.

Since January 1, 2024, a total of 18.342 people have crossed the waters of the channel between England and France in boats, an increase of 13% compared to the same period of the previous year, indicated the source.

In all of 2023 there were 29.437 arrivals, 36% less than the record of 45.774 in 2022.

The data was released days after violent riots occurred in several British cities instigated by far-right groups critical of the arrival of migrants.

These groups resorted to violence after a young man identified as Axel Rudakubana, born in Wales to Rwandan parents, murdered three girls with a knife and injured ten other people, eight of them minors.

Far-right groups responded to false information circulating on social media claiming that Rudakubana was an asylum seeker.

Fatalities

Two migrants died this Sunday in the shipwreck of a boat trying to cross the English Channel.

The boat, with fifty people on board, ended up sinking in the French waters of the channel, according to a British Police spokesperson to Sky News.

The fifty rescued people are now in France receiving medical attention.

The canal is an extremely dangerous route due to inclement weather, strong waves and low water temperatures.

Ethnic violence

Ethnic minorities in the United Kingdom, particularly Muslims, live in fear of violence instigated by far-right groups in British cities, which has forced security at mosques to be reinforced and some sectors advised not to travel alone, but do it in a group.

“This violence, racial violence, does not come from nowhere. "It's been under construction for at least a couple of decades."Raheel Mohammed, founder of Maslaha, an organization that fights discrimination against the Muslim community in London, told EFE.

Mohammed, in his fight against this inequality, believes that “it is a combination of racist legislation and policies, media dehumanization and the rhetoric of politicians”, that in the face of a traumatic event, racism emerges as an excuse.

The arrival of migrants to British shores was a recent electoral asset, with the controversial Rwanda plan, designed to prevent the disembarkation of boats by sending asylum seekers to that country (after an agreement with that country), or the rhetoric of the populist politician Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party.

Afghanistan, Iran, Eritrea, or Sudan are some of the countries of origin that serve the ultras to create their own profile: dark skin and Muslim religion.

“People feel scared (…) Muslim colleagues decide not to go to the city center,” says Mohammed, even though there has been no violence where they live.

“The fear has spread now”, he categorized.

  1. What a shame there is no option among conservatives.
The Labor Party won and now the catastrophe of the population at the hands of the Islamists will be much faster.
    What madness.
