The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is currently “the biggest international problem,” said the Russian Foreign Minister on Monday, Sergey Lavrov, which once again blamed the United States for “failing to keep its promises” to stop the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip.
“We cannot ignore this issue in the UN Security Council, as it is really the biggest international problem today. Even if there are those who try to present it in a different way,” he said at a press conference with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelaty.
The head of Russian diplomacy denounced that “none of the US promises have been fulfilled,” but “this does not mean that we should stop our efforts.”
"If the mediation that Egypt is actively carrying out together with other Arab countries leads to some result, we can only be happy," he said, stressing that Russia “welcomes any steps aimed at stopping the bloodshed as soon as possible and ensuring a permanent and stable ceasefire.”
Lavrov added that Russia is also working in this direction in the UN Security Council, but “The whole problem is that the US does not allow the advancement of any solution that seriously involves what everyone wants, the shedding of blood.”.
He regretted that the latest resolution approved by the UN Security Council calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip "remained a dead letter."
The minister also indicated that as soon as a ceasefire is achieved in Gaza, “It will be necessary to immediately implement the supply of humanitarian cargo.”
“The most important thing is that this conflict does not freeze again, it is necessary to force all those who oppose it to comply with the decisions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly on the creation of the Palestinian state. (Sic)"This is a very complex task," he stressed.
