British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said on Monday he was “delighted” that British-Israeli hostage Emily Damari has been released after 15 months in the hands of the Islamic terrorist organisation Hamas in Gaza.
“Let me first say how pleased and delighted I am that Emily Damari is out,” Lammy told BBC Radio 4.
"I think the whole country will be delighted that she is free, but recognising that there are still 95 hostages being held, and there are British citizens, like Nadav Popplewell, who have lost their lives," he added.
The minister described as “very emotional” the statement that Damari published on social media after his release yesterday as part of the first prisoner exchange of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Damari said on Monday that she is “happier than ever” to be able to return to her loved ones.
“I thank my family and my best friends,” the 28-year-old wrote on her Instagram account.
On Sunday, a photograph of the young woman went viral, in which she is seen missing two fingers on one hand, due to having lost them due to gunfire fired by Hamas operatives during the October 7, 2023 attacks against communities in southern Israel. EFE and Aurora
