Traditionally, judo is one of the sports in which Israel performs best internationally. At only 23 years old, Inbar Lanir enters the history of Israeli sports by becoming the country's third world champion.
The judoka received the gold medal on Friday, May 12 in Doha, Qatar, where this year's World Judo Championships were held. To reach that stage, she had to overcome four opponents. Before reaching the final against the French Audrey Tcheumeo, Lanir faced the number one in the world ranking, the Italian Alice Bellandi.
The gold winner dedicated her victory to Israel, which is going through an escalation of violence in the conflict with the Gaza Strip. “I am happy to be able to dedicate my medal to the residents of the south who are going through a difficult time, to the IDF soldiers and to the entire State of Israel,” Lanir said.
Many important names in Israeli sports, such as the Minister of Sports and Culture, Miki Zohar, they celebrated the happy news publicly.
