A group of scientists from six countries of the European Union has received a grant of 22 million euros to develop CAREPATH, an innovative platform designed to improve adherence to treatment of patients with cardiometabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol.

They were joined by Sivan Spitzer, an Israeli researcher at Bar-Ilan University's Azrieli Faculty of Medicine. The project also has support from the pharmaceutical industry, including companies such as Novo Nordisk, Pfizer and Sanofi.

Spitzer announced that “obesity, diabetes and other cardiometabolic diseases require a long-term, patient-centered approach,” adding that “CAREPATH aims to improve patient persistence with their treatments, transforming their lives and addressing these diseases in a comprehensive manner.”

The Israeli scientist also explained that “beyond the clinical aspect, we seek to create a system that is culturally relevant to diverse populations. This international collaboration combines technological innovation and real patient needs to address medical and social challenges.”
