Israeli police arrest couple accused of spying for Iran

The Police from Israel, in collaboration with the domestic intelligence agency (Shabacus), announced on Thursday the arrest of a couple from the city of Lod, in the center of the country, who were accuseda to gather information on national infrastructure and security facilities.

Police sources said the arrest took place on September 29, although these cases are usually subject to gag orders that delay their dissemination.

“Rafael and Lala Gulayev, about 32 years old and residents of Lod, were arrested while carrying out tasks for an Iranian network that recruits Israelis from the Caucasus” in the Hebrew State, reported the Police and the Shabak (also known as Shin Bet).

The detainees were also spying on an Israeli academic, whose identity was not disclosed by the authorities.

According to investigations by the Police and the ShabacusRafael was in turn recruited by Elshan Agayev, 56 years old and of Azerbaijani origin.

Part of the man's activities in the couple Gulayev included guarding the headquarters of the Mossad, Israel's foreign intelligence agency, and investigate the academic, who works for the Institute for National Security Studies. She had also been tasked with identifying anyone who could act as a hitman for the Iranian network.

Tensions between Iran and Israel are linked to the Hebrew State's wars in Gaza against the palestinian terrorist group Hamas and in Lebanon against the terrorist organization Shia Hezbollah.

  1. If they are citizens of Israel, I assume they will be sentenced to death for treason. Or at least life imprisonment and throwing away the key.
