Newly appointed Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar is set to travel to the Netherlands on an “urgent diplomatic mission” following violent attacks on fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv football team in Amsterdam.
“Sa'ar will meet with Dutch government officials, including his foreign minister, Caspar Veldkamp,” the minister's office said this morning. Throughout Friday, Sa'ar has maintained contacts with both Dutch and Israeli authorities in that country or their relatives.
The Foreign Ministry says that Sa'ar is seeking to emphasize at these meetings the need to combat “anti-Semitism” as well as “the new anti-Semitism that attacks Israel and Israel's right to exist and defend itself.”
In addition, Sa'ar will meet in Amsterdam with both Israelis attacked in the pogrom and members of the local Jewish community.
At least ten people were injured, according to Sa'ar, while three people are still missing following the attacks.
Interior Minister Moshe Arbel has ordered national immigration authorities to allow Israelis in Amsterdam who have lost their passports to board planes using other travel documents or photocopies of their passports.

The best thing Israel can do is prevent Israeli hooligans from ruining Europe. We already have enough problems around the world without a band of uncontrolled people doing more harm to Israel and the Jews. I support Israel and I go to every event or demonstration there is, but I have also seen in many places where uncontrolled and provocative people distort and disrupt peaceful and civilized events. Israeli hooligans have already caused incidents in many places before. I do not identify with them and the Israelis would do well to keep them “on a short leash”. Before, in the stadium they came with all kinds of provocations and inside the stadium when a minute of silence was called for for the tragedy in Valencia they booed the Spanish Prime Minister with the most uncivilized gestures. When I meet people of that caliber, I simply walk away. They do not represent me, nor do I want to have anything to do with them.
It's easy to ask for forgiveness and wash your hands.
Why didn't they do anything to prevent it, if they already knew it was going to happen?
