Israeli body function monitoring device receives FDA approval

Smart Skin was developed by biotechnology company X-Trodes, who announced that it has received certification from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Currently, the collection of electrophysiological data can only be carried out in a medical center, with highly specialized equipment and personnel. This creates problems for diagnosis, since doctors cannot access complete information about the patient's condition, but only specific data at specific times.

X-Trodes, an Israeli company based in Herzliya, developed a technology that makes it possible to leave this problem behind. The Smart Skin wearable device has the ability to monitor key body functions. It is a skin patch that measures, among other things, cardiac, muscle and brain activity.

X-Trodes technology is based on intellectual property (IP) developed over the last decade in Prof. Yael Hanein's Neuroengineering laboratory at Tel Aviv University. 

Recently, the company reported that it received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Ziv Pereman, CEO of the Israeli company, explained that “the X-Trodes system is the next generation of portable and completely wireless solutions, allowing doctors and researchers to realize the full potential of medical-grade electrophysiological monitoring.” 

Furthermore, he added that “obtaining FDA authorization confirms the value of this technology and its potential to improve health and well-being through access to real-time electrophysiological data. Additionally, it will further shorten the path to commercialization for a variety of clinical use cases.”
