The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, or PÖFF, is an annual film festival held since 1997 in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.
It is one of the largest film festivals in Northern Europe and includes two sub-festivals that run simultaneously with the main programme: the Just Film Children's and Youth Film Festival and PÖFF Shorts.
This year, Israeli director Nir Bergman participated in the competition, winning the Best Director award for his latest film. Pink Lady addresses the complexities of homosexual relationships in the ultra-Orthodox community.
Known for internationally award-winning films such as Intimate Grammar o Broken wingsBergman is the author of a sensitive and provocative drama, conceived in collaboration with Mindi Ehrlich, who grew up in an ultra-Orthodox community in Jerusalem and captured some of her own experiences in the script.
The film's protagonist is Bati, a young Haredi mother who discovers that her husband is being blackmailed with intimate photos linking him to his fellow student. She tries to "cure" her husband through seduction, but eventually understands that she has to accept this situation and thus confronts a community that openly rejects homosexuality.
