On Sunday, August 11, the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Israeli delegation, which in addition to going through the context of war, had to face threats at all levels of the competition, managed to achieve a historical record of medals.
In total there were seven: one gold, five silver and one bronze. Furthermore, the anti-Israel demonstrations were smaller than anticipated, limited to a few signs and sporadic boos.
Judo was Israel's most successful sport, with a total of three medals. Raz Hershko and Inbar Lanir won silver medals and Peter Paltchik took bronze. It is also a sport in which the Israeli delegation usually excels, with a total of nine Olympic medals in judo.
But Israel's greatest achievement in Paris was the gold medal won by Tom Reuveny in the men's windsurfing category.
At only 24 years old, Reuveny was not the favorite, but he exceeded all expectations and secured first position in the final race. He windsurf brought a second medal, in this case for Sharon Kantor, who won the silver medal in the women's category.
Finally, there were two medals in artistic gymnastics. Artem Dolgopyat won a silver medal in the floor routine, becoming Israel's most decorated Olympian, and the women's rhythmic gymnastics team won a silver medal.
There are still the Paralympic Games, which begin on August 28, in which 28 Israeli athletes will compete.
