Israeli authorities announced on Tuesday the signing of two agreements worth one billion shekels (about 260 million euros) to boost the local production of bombs and raw materials for the military industry.
Both agreements are with the Israeli military technology company Elbit, based in the city of Haifa.
The first agreement establishes that Elbit “will supply Israel’s Ministry of Defense with thousands of heavy air munitions”, according to a statement issued today.
The second stipulates the construction of a national plant for the production of energy raw materials necessary for the country's military industry.
Since the war in the Gaza Strip began in October 2023, the Israeli authorities They have boosted the local military industry in an attempt to reduce the country's dependence on the United States, its main supplier of weapons and ammunition.
"Both agreements will ensure the sovereign ability to produce bombs and ammunition of all types," Israeli Defense Ministry Director General Eyal Zamir said in the statement.
The official explained that the push for national capabilities began before the war but “has accelerated” since October 7.
Zamir said the initial capabilities under the two agreements would be expanded to achieve full independence in both areas, a “central lesson of the war.”
