Israel presses Europe to designate Yemen's Houthis as terrorists

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has instructed the country's diplomatic missions in Europe to pressure states to designate the self-proclaimed Ansar Allah movement of Yemen's Houthis as a "terrorist organization" in light of the attacks they launch against Israeli territory.

“The backdrop is the series of attacks carried out by the Houthis against Israel in recent days, which included the launching of ballistic missiles against the centre of the country, missiles that, among other things, hit a school and the surroundings of a children's park,” said a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

The Houthis have made their attacks on Israel more frequent in recent weeks, following the cessation of the exchange of fire with the Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Israeli operation in the demilitarized zone of the Golan Heights.

The latest rocket was launched early this morning, setting off air raid sirens in central Israel, including Tel Aviv.

“A projectile launched from Yemen was intercepted before crossing into Israeli territory. Rocket and missile sirens were sounded in anticipation of possible shrapnel from the interception,” a military statement said at 1.55:XNUMX a.m.

A 60-year-old woman was seriously injured after falling and hitting her head while running to hide in a bomb shelter in Tel Aviv, according to the Magen David Adom (Red Star of David) emergency services. In total, its paramedics treated 25 people with minor injuries from similar situations or who suffered anxiety attacks.

“The leaders of the organization publicly declare that they will continue to attack Israel and prevent the free passage of ships in the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait,” the Foreign Ministry said, recalling that more than 100 ships have been attacked in the area since October 7, 2023.

“The direct threat to freedom of navigation on one of the world's busiest shipping routes is a challenge to the international community and to the world order. The first and most basic thing is to designate them as a terrorist organization,” the head of diplomacy appealed.

The ministry also said the Houthis are an “agent” of Iran dedicated to destabilizing the region, saying they depend on the Islamic Republic for weapons and funding.

Speaking yesterday, Defense Minister Israel Katz also issued a threat against the Yemeni group: “We have severely damaged the axis of evil (referring to Iran and its allies) and we will also severely strike the remaining Houthi terrorist organization in Yemen.”

On January 17, the United States announced that it was redesignating the Yemeni insurgent group as a terrorist organization, something that Donald Trump had already done during his first administration and then reversed under the Joe Biden administration.

The Houthis have been attacking Israel, they say in various statements, in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, just as Hezbollah did in its day, until the exchange of fire on the border with Lebanon led to a war and an incursion into the south of the country by the Israel Defense Forces, which killed the leader of the Shiite terrorist organization, Hassan Nasrallah, in a bombing at the end of September.

  1. The West has lost its way.
A religious fundamentalist organization takes control of their country by force.
He starts firing missiles at a country with which he has no relations.
Blockade of international navigation by sinking ships around the world.
And the Western left does not call them terrorists.
What are they waiting for? It would be nice if they got what they deserved, if it weren't for the fact that the Western world will fall with them.
