The Israel Defense Forces claimed to have killed the commander in an attack on Tuesday Mohammad Qassem al-Shaa, Radwan Force, the elite unit of the Lebanese group Hezbollah, in the Qaraoun area, south of Lebanon.
According to the Army, the terrorist "promoted numerous terrorist activities against the State of Israel" and his "elimination further harms Hezbollah's ability to promote and launch" attacks against the country's northern border.
"Artillery also attacked the areas of Souaneh and Ayta ash Shab," also in southern Lebanon, the military statement added.
The Lebanese group confirmed on Tuesday on its channels the death of Al Shaa, although it did not specify the position he held.
The Lebanese National News Agency (ANN) confirmed this morning the death of one person and said that two others were injured when an Israeli drone bombed a motorcycle that was traveling in the Bab Mareh area, in southeastern Lebanon.
The drone fired a missile at a motorcycle on the road linking the towns of Bab Mareh and Saghbine.
The border between Israel and Lebanon is experiencing its highest point of tension since 2006, with an intense exchange of fire since October 8, the day after the war broke out in the Gaza Strip. In recent months, the crossfire between the two sides has intensified and the international community fears the outbreak of a regional war.
In fact, this Monday, the opposition leader and former minister of the now dissolved Israeli War Cabinet, Benny Gantz called on the government to immediately launch an open war against Hezbollah in Lebanon. "The time has come for the north and we are already late," the politician warned.
