Israel kills commander of Islamic Jihad rocket unit in Gaza

The head of the missile and rocket unit of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Rafah was shot down by an Israeli drone attack yesterday in the area of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced.

Ahmed Aish Salame al Hashash, who was responsible for directing and “firing rockets from inside the humanitarian zone towards Israeli civilians” was “an important source of knowledge” in the deployment of rockets by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the military spokesman said.

The IDF clarified that measures were taken to mitigate harm to civilians in the attack, and accused terrorist groups of Gaza of “systematically” using civilian sites for their terrorist activities.

At the same time, the military spokesman announced that a reservist from the Reconnaissance Unit of the Givati ​​Infantry Brigade was seriously wounded last night during fighting in the south of the Strip.

The soldier's family was notified and the fighter was evacuated to a hospital for medical care, the statement added.
