The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intercepted a drone fired from Yemen, hours after it shot down a ballistic missile on Friday, also from the same country, setting off alarms in central Israel, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

"The unmanned aerial vehicle was intercepted before crossing into Israeli territory. The sirens were not sounded in accordance with protocol," the military statement said.

The arrival of missiles and drones fired from Yemen by Houthi terrorists has increased in recent weeks.

Early Friday morning, the IDF intercepted a missile after it entered Israeli territory. Some fragments of the interceptor landed in the Modiin area, where a large explosion was heard, residents reported.

The Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service said that "so far, there have been no reports of rocket impacts or physical injuries," although 12 people were injured as they made their way to shelters.

Following the outbreak of the war against Hamas in Gaza, Houthi terrorists, armed and sponsored by Iran, began attacking Israeli territory as well as ships sailing in the Red and Arabian Seas with drones and missiles.

Houthi militants have increased the frequency of their attacks, prompting Israel to bomb targets in Yemen, including Sanaa airport.

Israel warned at the United Nations on Monday that it would not accept calls for restraint from the UN, according to its ambassador, Danny Danon.

“We do not expect much from the UN, but we will not accept calls for restraint. Do not call for de-escalation when we respond (to the attacks), do not equate those who launch killer missiles with those who try to protect their people,” Danon added.
