The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Sunday it intercepted a new missile launched from Yemen before it reached its territory, triggering air raid sirens across much of the country.
In a statement, the IDF reported that its forces intercepted "a missile launched from Yemen before it crossed into Israeli territory."
This is the fourth time Israel has intercepted a missile fired by Yemen's Houthi militants since they resumed their attacks against the Islamic terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip last Tuesday, following the failure of negotiations for the release of Israeli hostages held in the coastal enclave and the extension of the ceasefire that began on January 19.
Two more were fired last Thursday and a third on Friday. All were intercepted before impact, and none caused injuries, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
On Tuesday, following the collapse of the truce, which triggered an Israeli bombing campaign against Hamas targets in Gaza, the Houthis said they would escalate their military operations with new attacks against the Jewish state.
In addition to these missiles, Hamas has launched rockets from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli territory, and yesterday, Saturday, three rocket launches took place from Lebanese territory, for which the Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah disassociated itself and which also caused no injuries.
In response, Israel launched two waves of attacks against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon yesterday, in the most serious test of the fragile truce between Israel and Lebanon that has been in place since last November.
