Anti-missile sirens were activated on Monday night in Tel Aviv and the central region of the country after a ballistic missile was launched from Yemen, which was intercepted before entering Israeli territory, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported.

"Following the sirens that sounded recently in central Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Air Force before crossing into Israeli territory," the military spokesman said in a statement.

He also said that sirens were activated at 23:11 p.m. due to the possibility of shrapnel falling from the interception.

The Magen David Adom (Red Star of David) emergency service said it had received no reports of injuries.

Police said they are conducting searches to locate areas where the remains of the intercepted device may have fallen.

In recent weeks, Houthi terrorists, allies of Iran, have stepped up their missile launches against Israel, sounding the alarm in Jerusalem and the Dead Sea on Saturday.

On Friday, Israel claimed responsibility for an attack on Ben Gurion International Airport, 15 kilometres south-east of Tel Aviv, with a ballistic missile that was intercepted outside Israeli airspace.

The Israel Defense Forces, for their part, responded by attacking the Sana'a airfield, which caused - according to information from sources that could not be independently verified - six deaths and forty injuries.

Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, the terrorist group, which has controlled Sanaa and other areas in northern and western Yemen since 2015, has attacked Israeli territory and ships in the Red and Arabian Seas with drones and missiles.

The Jerusalem government has warned Houthi terrorists, armed and sponsored by Iran, that it will not allow attacks against the country and that it has the support of the United States to combat them.
