The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Tuesday that it had intercepted a missile launched by Houthi militants from Yemen before it crossed into Israeli territory.

"Following the sirens that sounded a moment ago in the central and southern Negev (the desert located in the south of the country), a missile fired from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF (Israeli Air Force) before crossing into Israeli territory," the military spokesman said in a brief statement.

The Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service confirmed that it has not received any calls for help so far, other than isolated cases of panic.

Early warning system sirens were heard in the cities of Beersheva, Dimona, and other towns in the south of the country.

This is the first Houthi attack against Israel since January 18, just after the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip went into effect, which collapsed early this morning.

The Organization Ansaar Allah (Supporters of God), popularly known as the Houthis, a Shiite terrorist group supported by Iran, threatened last week to resume its attacks against Israel.
