Solaris is Israel's first national solar observatory, a project supported by the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and the Israel Space Agency, with an investment of NIS 1.15 million for its construction and another NIS 600.000 for its operation over the next three years.
This is a milestone for astronomical research in Israel, and especially for the region, as the observatory opened its doors in the Druze town of Isfiya, on Mount Carmel.
The opening of this center, which seeks to promote space education in Israeli Arab communities, coincides with the spring equinox, a key time for solar observation.
Solaris has four telescopes specialized in studying solar activity and its effects on Earth. It also offers educational programs in Arabic and Hebrew, allowing students of all ages to explore topics such as solar radiation, renewable energy, and the impact of space on human life.
