Israeli Air Force fighter jets have bombed a weapons depot belonging to the Palestinian Islamic terrorist organization Hamas in Deir Ali, a Syrian town located 30 kilometers south of Damascus, a military spokesman announced.
In a statement, accompanied by a video of the attack, the military spokesman stressed that the attack occurred on Saturday and was based on intelligence information indicating that “the weapons stored inside the depot were intended for use in attacks against Israel Defense Forces troops.”
“Palestinian terrorist organisations, led by Hamas, are exploiting Syrian territory to carry out terrorist activities under the direction of Iran,” the statement added.
The statement added that the Israel Defense Forces "will continue to dismantle Hamas' capabilities on all fronts and will act against all attempts by terrorist organizations to entrench themselves and increase their forces to protect the State of Israel."
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in late January that Israeli forces will remain stationed in the demilitarized zone in southern Syria, located on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, indefinitely.
