The Israeli authorities decided this Wednesday not to raise the military alert level after the elimination in Iran of the leader of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, which the Islamic terrorist group attributes to an attack by Israel; although it did close airspace in the entire northern half of the country.
«There are no changes in the defensive guidelines of the Home Front Command. "The Israel Defense Forces are evaluating the situation," the military spokesman said today, a message of calm to the population after the events of the last few hours.
Israeli authorities issued a similar statement following the attack last night in the suburbs of Beirut against the “chief of the General Staff” of the Lebanese Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah, Fuad Shukr.
The bombing, in retaliation for the massacre of 12 Druze children and adolescents after the impact of a Hezbollah rocket in the Golan Heights in northern Israel, represents an escalation of the conflict on the border with Lebanon that threatens to lead to a regional war.
Despite no changes in the military alert level, the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority has decided to close airspace in the north of the country.
At the moment, no Israeli official has referred to the attack on Haniyeh, in which one of his bodyguards also died, when he was on an official visit to Tehran to participate in the inauguration of the new Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
However, some government ministers have published messages on social networks celebrating the news.
«This is the right way to cleanse the world of this filth. No more imaginary 'peace'/surrender agreements, no more mercy for these mortals," said Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, of the extremist Jewish Power party, alongside a screenshot of the news of Haniyeh's death.
Eliyahu already made headlines in November when he asserted that one of the options in the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip was to launch a nuclear bomb.
Also the Minister for Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, of Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party, published a video of the late Palestinian leader in which a crowd shouts "Death to Israel", and wrote: "Be careful what you wish for."
According to the Israeli public news channel, Kan, Netanyahu himself had ordered all government ministers not to comment on Haniyeh's death.
