The Israel Defense Forces confirmed on Wednesday that one of its recent attacks in the Gaza Strip killed Fehmi Salmi, commander of the Nukhba, an elite Hamas cell that planned and led the October 7 attacks.

“The Israeli Air Force, under the precise direction of the Intelligence Directorate and the Israel Security Authority, attacked and eliminated terrorist Fehmi Salmi, commander of the Nukhba company in Hamas’ Zeitoun battalion,” the army said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to military officials, Salmi led the October 7 attack on the Paga military outpost near Kibbutz Beeri in southern Israel on the border with the Gaza Strip, which killed 14 soldiers.

The army also reported that another recent Israeli attack on Gaza killed Salah Dahham, head of Hamas's paragliding unit, in the Jabalia area.

Dahham was accused by Israel of leading “Hamas’ aerial infiltration into communities in southern Israel, a key part of attacks against civilians.”
