Israeli Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi on Monday called on his troops to be ready “to carry out major anti-terrorist operations” in the coming days in the West Bank, where 90 Palestinian prisoners were released yesterday as part of the ceasefire agreement.

“In addition to stepping up defensive preparations in the Gaza Strip, we must be ready to carry out major anti-terror operations in Judea and Samaria in the coming days to preempt and stop terrorists before they reach our civilians,” Halevi said during an assessment of the fronts with his troops.

The newspaper The Times of Israel already reported this Saturday, citing military sources, that Up to seven additional companies will join the armed forces in these territories.

The first group of Palestinian prisoners, mostly women and children, were released early Monday from Ofer prison near Ramallah. The prison service was tasked with rounding up all prisoners whose identities were verified by Israeli security forces and representatives of the Red Cross.

In total, nearly 2.000 prisoners are scheduled to be released during the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which will last 42 days and during which 33 hostages will also leave Gaza.

This decision has created cracks within the coalition government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, The Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, announced the release of five Israeli settlers two days before the truce came into effect. who were in administrative detention.

None of this convinced one of the most radical ministers in the Israeli executive, the former head of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, of the Jewish Power party, who resigned yesterday along with five other members (three ministers and three parliamentarians) of his party.

  1. I don't understand why they are releasing them in the West Bank, if the exchange is for hostages across the border with Gaza. Why don't they also take the Palestinian prisoners across the border with Gaza?
