Paraguayan Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar discussed the planned visit of President Santiago Peña to the country in December and the relocation of the Paraguayan embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, announced last August by the South American leader.
This was announced in a statement by the Foreign Ministry in Asunción, in which it stated that during the telephone conversation both officials discussed "issues of bilateral relevance."
"The ministers agreed to work together to strengthen the friendship and alliance between Paraguay and Israel, highlighting the importance of this relationship in the international context," the statement added.
Last September, speaking at the reopening ceremony of the Israeli diplomatic delegation in the Paraguayan capital, Peña announced that he would formally inaugurate his country's embassy in Jerusalem next December.
The Paraguayan Embassy in Israel, traditionally located in Tel Aviv, had been moved to Jerusalem in May 2018 during the mandate of President Horacio Cartes (2013-2018), but his successor, Mario Abdo Benítez (2018-2023), reversed his decision months later.
