HaShomer HaChadash and the Tzohar Rabbinical Organization presented a moving collection of letters to soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as part of the Purim celebration.
The collection is named “Mishloach Manot Krav,” meaning Purim baskets for soldiers, and brings together twelve essays representative of the spirit of Purim from writers and spiritual figures. The baskets will be delivered in the coming days to IDF soldiers in military bases and combat zones.
Einat Kramer, educational director of HaShomer HaChadash, noted that Purim “finds us in a difficult and complex reality, which makes celebrating challenging. 'Mishloach Manot Krav', our joint initiative with Tzohar, seeks, through a connection with the essence of the holiday and the Megillah of Esther, to provide frontline soldiers, and indeed each of us, with strength and response during these days.”
Rabbi David Stav, president of the Tzohar Rabbinical Organization, noted the relationship between the story the collection tells and Israel's present: “IDF soldiers who have been on the front lines for weeks are dealing with 'Haman.' of our time, our enemies on multiple fronts who seek to annihilate us, kill and destroy all Jews. Just like then, today we pray and give thanks for the miracle.”
