In recent days, thousands of small earthquakes have struck the islands of Santorini, Greece. These quakes, which were nearly 2000, with magnitudes between 4.0 and 5.3, have caused concern throughout the region about the possibility that they could produce a large earthquake that could trigger a tsunami in the Mediterranean.

While it is impossible to predict when and where such events might occur, experts warn that the likelihood increases during periods of high seismic activity.

In this context, Israel's National Security Council has called an emergency meeting to assess the possibility of the country facing a tsunami. Following the meeting, the deputy head of the council stressed the need to strengthen preparedness measures for a possible tsunami.

While Israel has a regional tsunami warning system and sensors installed at various points along the coast to detect possible giant waves, and some cities such as Haifa have developed evacuation plans with clear signage to guide residents to safe areas, the authorities have now made some special recommendations to the population, such as following evacuation routes on foot, instead of using vehicles, and developing family emergency plans, identifying evacuation routes and staying informed of any alerts.
