A recent report by the Israeli Institute for Innovation Assessment (INSA) and the Ono Academic College warns of the worrying situation of the innovation sector in Israel.

Based on a survey of 200 organizations from 35 industrial sectors, experts say that only 2% of Israeli organizations are working on disruptive innovation. In contrast, 55% of companies are focusing on what they call conservative innovation, i.e. improvements that are applied to already existing products.

The numbers reflect a loss of innovative momentum in Israel, which as a country faces challenges that could threaten its position as a global leader in innovation.

Avi Sagi, CEO of INSA, said that “without fostering broad innovation across all sectors, Israel will struggle to maintain its leadership position.” On the other hand, he noted that “investing in innovation infrastructure in the periphery could propel the entire economy forward.”
