Leket Israel, in collaboration with consultants from BDO and the Ministry of Environmental Protection, recently published an annual report revealing the volume of food waste and rescue nationwide.

A surprising number emerges from the report: since the start of the war on October 7, food worth nearly NIS XNUMX billion has been wasted.

Additionally, approximately 22% of fruit and vegetable products were wasted between October and April. The bimonthly average in previous years was less than 10%.

The context of the war generated limited accessibility to agricultural fields and a 40% decrease in the agricultural workforce. As a result of this, there was an increase of almost 20% on vegetable prices and more than 10% in fruits.

The study also highlights that without the intervention of hundreds of thousands of volunteers, they rescued more than 35.000 tons of agricultural products. Without this work, the waste percentage would have reached 25%.

In conclusion, experts urge Israel to strengthen its local agricultural production and improve conditions for farmers.

  1. Waste. In Israeli hands there will be no more waste, ...some invention is about to come out without any fanfare. Waste: there is none. (If you want, publish... otherwise it doesn't matter. Thank you.
