Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi today submitted his resignation to Defense Minister Israel Katz over the military failure that allowed Hamas to launch its attacks on October 7, 2023.

The country's top military official asked to leave his post on March 6 this year. Until then, Halevi will oversee the army's investigations into the October 7 incident.

In his resignation letter, Halevi says that his “responsibility” for the attacks haunts him “day after day, hour after hour.” “I will live like this for the rest of my life,” he writes.

The official had already indicated that he planned to resign once the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip was over.

The first phase of the ceasefire in the enclave came into effect on Sunday and is set to last for six weeks, during which 33 Israeli hostages in the Strip will be progressively released in exchange for more than 1.900 Palestinian terrorists held in Israeli jails.

The first three hostages were released in good condition on Sunday, after which 90 Palestinian prisoners, the vast majority of them women and children, were freed in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

  1. I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT POLITICS OR MILITARY ARTS, HOWEVER I DARE TO ASK HALEVI TO REMAIN IN HIS POST UNTIL THE END OF THE CONFLICT AND THE UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER OF HAMAS. NO ONE BUT HIM KNOWS ALL THE EFFORTS AND SACRIFICES THE IDF HAS MADE FOR THE DEFENSE OF ISRAEL IN THIS TIME.

  2. I still don't understand how Palestinian prisoners are released in the West Bank and Jerusalem? What madness. Why don't they release them in Gaza? They are convicted of acts of terrorism and murder in Israel and they are released in Israel? What can be expected of them while they are in Israeli territory?
