Britain's King Charles III will attend a commemorative event at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Poland on January 27 to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration camp in 1945, Buckingham Palace said Monday.

The British monarch will also meet Polish President Andrzej Duda and representatives of the local community in Krakow, the statement said.

This will be her fifth visit to Poland and her first since ascending to the throne following the death of Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022.

As Prince of Wales, he visited the country in 1993, 2002, in 2008 with his wife Camilla and in 2010 as part of a wider tour that also took him to Hungary and the Czech Republic.

At least ten state delegations, including one from Poland, will be attending the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, headed by heads of state and government.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk He guaranteed a few days ago that any Israeli representative who wishes to attend will be guaranteed his safety and will not be detained., in relation to the international arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The event will also be marked by the presence of survivors of the camp established by the Nazis in 1940, which was the scene of the extermination of at least 1,1 million people, mainly Jews.

Their liberation by the Soviet Army in 1945 marks a crucial milestone in the history of the Holocaust, which is commemorated internationally every January 27.

  1. Great news, especially since the Spanish government of Sánchez is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the death of the dictator Franco. The King of Spain is truly at a level that is unreachable for the PSOE, just as when this King accompanied the victims of Dana in Valencia last year. The King stands up and lives up to his title, while the Spanish government is ashamed and astonishing due to its level of corruption and immorality.
